🍓 A Sweet Twist on a Puerto Rican Classic: Introducing Our Strawberry Swirl Mallorca Rolls
If you know me, you know that baking is part love language, part therapy, and always a little bit extra. So when I decided to put a personal spin on one of my most nostalgic breads — the beloved Mallorca roll — it had to be soft, buttery, and just a little unexpected. Enter: the Strawberry Swirl Mallorca.
What is a Mallorca roll?
Mallorcas (aka pan de Mallorca) are fluffy, slightly sweet rolls from Puerto Rico, traditionally enjoyed at breakfast with a café con leche or split and toasted with butter. They're made from an enriched dough (think: butter, eggs, milk), coiled into spirals, and showered in powdered sugar. They're pillowy. They're decadent. They're home.
The result?
A soft, rich roll with vibrant pink streaks of natural strawberry running through every bite — still comforting, but with a little burst of fruit-forward flair.
And honestly? It felt right.
I used to pick wild strawberries with my abuelo in the mountains of Puerto Rico when I was little — tiny, sweet berries we carried back home in a giant leaf. This swirl is a little nod to him, and to those joyful memories.
